Remote MySQL Hosts

Since we all cannot afford the $9.95 MySQL Upgrade or just doesn't have access to a server with MySQL some might turn to Remote MySQL instead of SQLite, but why are people wanting MySQL instead of SQLite?

Well, SQLite is still quite new, and lacking support of some major and useful features that MySQL does have, though SQLite is getting better and better, and since SQLite is so new, and finally getting better CMS's, Scripts, Forums etc. are starting to become available in an SQLite powered backend version, but are buggy at times.

There is nothing wrong with using a remote MySQL host, but I should warn you. MySQL is VERY resource intensive, and when a MySQL host starts getting more and more users, it gets slower and slower, and MySQL Hosts can be very easily abused. Plus, you can get strange MySQL errors, like "The MySQL server has gone away", which means when you or a script was querying to the database, the connection was dropped or timed out.

So be very careful when using a remote MySQL host, and backup regularly! But still, here is a quick list of Free MySQL Hosts you can use.

FreeSQL - This MySQL host runs MySQL v5, however, they do not allow forums to be hosted on their MySQL

DB4Free - This MySQL host keeps up on the latest versions of MySQL and phpMyAdmin

FreeMySQL - I know very little about what versions they run, nor can I find where they specify it.
